"You are such a dichotomous thing" I said to her with a smile

I was speaking to a friend of mine, and our words were on silence. She mentioned a frequent desire of hers to break silences....I made the observation that watching the stars with her must be "quite the fucking thing." I was swiftly corrected; "...I get quieter under the stars. There are moments that I love to soak in the silence, and others that I love to ruin it."

"You are such a dichotomous thing" I replied.

I thought this a novel thing to say. To claim that she was, in essence, a dichotomy. I reached, then, however, to a class I took on the psychology of the personality. There was one theory of all that I learned -which ranged from Freud to a man named Walter Mischel- called the Cognitive Affective Personality System. Long scary name aside, this is actually a relatively straight forward theory of personality. This theory's main point is to show why and how people who are described as being kindhearted and gentle can also occasionally present as complete jackasses, and any other range of moods in between.

My point here is not to educate you on this theory of personality (that being said, I have attached a pdf for all of those who are interested in one of the most reputable theories on human personality to date); my point is to do nothing . more than make an observation My observation is this: nice people can do horrible things, evil people can be charitable, those who are shy and quiet have the capacity to enthrall and captivate.

Be slow to typecast a soul into the role you believe they will play in your world.
